Principal's Message

Joanne Jarvis

Welcome to the Engadine High School web site. I am very proud of the achievements of our school as we strive to provide the very best educational and extra-curricular opportunities for all students. As a member of the Engadine community since childhood and a parent of two children who attend the school, I have a passion to ensure that Engadine High School
continues to produce future citizens who reach their potential and who value their local and global community.

We draw most of our 950 students from local primary schools and welcome an increasing number who are joining us from much further south and from Loftus. A brief walk from the train station, our students enjoy a secure and stimulating environment in which their achievements as learners are valued and recognised.

Our priorities include consolidating a strong learning culture in a secure, positive learning environment and using teaching practices that enhance academic achievement for all students. We believe that learning flourishes when it is an interactive process involving students, parents and teachers. Numerous opportunities and successes in performing arts and sport are just some of the ways that we have been able to nurture a positive environment in which students can thrive.

I believe that we have an essential role in preparing students to develop confidence, life-long learning skills and readiness to confront the challenges necessitated by a growing emphasis on technology. We have an active, skilled and knowledgeable technology team that is constantly seeking to provide effective infrastructure and hardware to ensure that technology is integrated into learning.

We have an effective welfare and discipline system where teachers recognise the interdependence of learning and welfare. The Welfare team is an energetic, committed group that responds to the needs of students and develops strategies to support the emotional well-being of all students. We encourage students to be reflective, to accept consequences and be accountable for their commitment, attendance, choices and actions.

Our primary focus is to ensure that students feel safe, are respected and respect the rights of others and that all students enjoy an environment which allows them to learn. We are proud of our school and its role in producing citizens of their future who value their community and who believe in their ability to make a difference to their world.
