Engadine High School actively supports the needs of academically able students. In each Year group from 7-10 there are two selective classes formed specifically to meet the needs of these students. Teachers of selective classes differentiate their teaching, the content and skills to better meet the levels at which students in these classes work.
Research indicates that academically able students benefit from being in a class with students of similar ability and with whom they can work at a similar pace. These classes are offer work that is more challenging both in the complexity, level and pace of learning.
Entry into a selective class is primarily based on the results of standardised testing that most students complete around September. The three tests cover general aptitude, comprehension and mathematics. Information from a student’s primary school and additional information offered by parents may also support class placements.
