We have established highly effective links with PROBUS, a local community organisation of retired people. Each year, we welcome Engadine PROBUS to our school for their meeting. Year 11 Hospitality students provide morning tea and guests are entertained by the Engadine High Show Band, vocalists and dancers.
Although the entertainment differs each year, the format remains the same. The day begins with an address by the Principal, Ms Jarvis, about an educational issue such as the challenges of teaching in a digital world; or, the national education agenda.
This is always followed by a sumptious morning tea catered by our Years 11 and 12 Hospitality students.
Student entertainment is always a highlight. The Concert Band, vocalists, drama students and junior and senior dance ensembles perform a range of jazz, rock and contemporary pieces. In addition, we showcase the immense talent of our music students. Not only is this a wonderful opportunity for students to perform to a real audience, it allows our Entertainment VET class the opportunity to practise their skills in lighting, sound and stage management. We love the PROBUS day at Engadine High.
Our links with PROBUS have broadened to encompass the assistance of members for our Year 10 Mock Interviews. PROBUS members supported people from TAFE and other industries to conduct interviews and provide much needed advice to students. This too, has become an annual event.
In a recent development, PROBUS members will kindly give up their time on the fourth Tuesday of each month to provide landscaping support for our beautiful gardens. See the photos below.
