The Languages department offer both French and Italian language.
Students are to complete the mandatory 100 hours study of one language, a requirement for the award of the School Certificate. For 2012 only, Year 8 will complete 100 hours of French in addition to the 100 hours of Italian completed in 2011. This is beciause we have moved the study of a language into Year 8 instead of Year 7.
Students can elect to study language. A choice is offered between French and Italian.
At the completion of the 200 hour elective foreign language course, students will have the skills to communicate with proficiency in the areas of general interest to teenagers. They will also have an enriched cultural knowledge which will have made them more accepting of diversity and more aware of their place in the international community.
In the senior years French and Italian are offered at 2 Unit, and Extension level.
A wide range of texts, reading and audio-visual materials is utilized. Computer resources are in current use and others are to be added this year.
Engadine High hosts students from various European countries. It also encourages individual students to participate in student exchange programs. We also organise various short and long term sojourns overseas for people between the ages of 14 to 18 years.
