Peer Support Program
Peer Support is a highly successful program which gives senior students an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and peer mediation skills. It also allows junior students to identify a peer who they respect and from whom they can seek information and advice if required.
Year 10 students attend a Peer Support Camp in Term 4 where they are trained in leadership and conflict resolution skills. They are taught to empathise with younger students and how to provide effective support to ensure that Year 7 students enjoy a smooth transition to high school.
Year 10 students first meet their Year 7 buddies during the Orientation Day which is held in December. Organised peer support activities are held during Term 1 with Year 7 students and their Year 11 buddies. Our research shows that these groups provide an opportunity for junior students to experience positive senior role models in s safe, organised environment. Year 11 students also develop life-long skills which are highly desired by future employers.
