School Uniform

Ratified by  P&C 13 February 2008

We ask all our students to wear their uniform with pride and dignity and to remember that untidy dress or misbehaviour whilst dressed in the school uniform brings discredit to the school, themselves and parents.

The School Uniform Policy

All students are required to wear the correct school uniform and take pride in their personal appearance. They should be neat and well groomed. Only school approved items are to be worn.

  • Correct school shirt and blouse – no PE shirts on non-sport days.
  • Tattered and long trousers – trousers/slacks should be hemmed neatly and sit on the shoe in such a way that does not create a potential trip hazard.
  • Blue school tracksuits pants may be worn on Wednesdays only. They MUST NOT be worn any other day. Fleecy styles are not permitted.
  • Coloured undergarments under the school shirt/blouse – Only white or concealed flesh coloured singlets or undergarments are to be worn under the school shirt.
  • Unbuttoned shirts – all buttons are to be done up except the top button near the collar.
  • Excessive jewellery – the only items of jewellery permitted are a watch, a signet ring, single discreet item on a chain around the neck, small, discreet bracelet.  Students with pierced ears are permitted to wear sleepers or studs. Visible body piercing is not allowed. Chunky bracelets or multiple bangles are not acceptable. Students will be asked to remove these items.
  • All black leather, plain, fully enclosed school shoes are the only acceptable style shoe. These are lace-up shoes, not boots. “Ballet” type shoes (the ones without a strap or lace) are not permitted under any circumstances nor are “volley” style canvas shoes. Light ballet style slip ons, shoes with a strap that only cover the front of the foot, canvas sports shoes, coloured shoes, dangerous high heeled shoes and thongs are not acceptable. Students wearing these shoes will not be permitted into any laboratory or work room and will be asked to purchase an appropriate pair of leather, black lace-up shoes.
  • On sport days, students in years 7-10 must still wear fully enclosed, leather joggers.
  • Socks - all white calf length. Sport anklet socks are not allowed, including Sport Days (Wednesday) and PE lessons. Small insignia’s or stripes are not permitted on the socks.
  • Excessive make-up – make-up is to be minimal and fingernails should be natural or lightly coloured and short.
  • Girls shorts are part of the summer uniform only. Students will be given a change-over date to wear the winter uniform and they will be expected to abide by the date.
  • The jumper is woollen with the school logo. ‘Sloppy joe’ or ‘hoodie’ style jumpers are not permitted, under or over the school jumper.
  • The cardigan is woollen with the school logo, for girls.
  • The school tracksuit jacket may only be worn over the woollen jumper. This is because the jacket is made from a microfibre material and cannot be worn in Science or D&T rooms. The jacket has been added to the uniform to provide additional warmth when the jumper does not suffice. In addition, the jumper adds a classy look to the overall uniform.
  • Long sleeve shirts that have been worn under shirts are not acceptable and will not be necessary as the jacket can be worn over the woollen jumper for additional warmth.
  • Students in the junior school are expected to wear the Engadine High sports uniform on Wednesdays. This is the only occasion that the sports uniform can be worn to and from school. If a student has a PE class during the day, for example, they are expected wear their school uniform to school and change for their PE lesson. After the PE lesson, students are expected to change back into their school uniform.
  • The dress is worn in summer and can be worn during winter with navy or black stockings/tights.
  • The school scarf can be worn during winter.

Out of Uniform Policy

Engadine High School has a strict Uniform Policy which has been ratified by the P&C. All students are expected to wear the correct uniform.

Uniform passes are issued to students who are out of uniform. Uniform passes are issued every school day from the A Block Administrative Office area before school and during roll call. Students must have a note, signed and dated by a parent or guardian, stating the reason for being out of uniform. This is recorded on a database. If the student does not have a note, on two occasions throughout the year, ‘Satisfactory’ is included on their school report to describe their uniform standard. After three occasions throughout the school year, ‘Unsatisfactory’ is included on their report and a Tuesday after school detention is issued.

The School Uniform Shop

The school has a uniform shop located adjacent to the A Block Administrative Office area, where all items of the school uniform may be purchased. The uniform shop will be open to allow easier access to the correct items of school uniform on Tuesday mornings, between 10am and 11am.

Items of uniform which are no longer needed by students are gratefully accepted by the A Block Office Staff. These items must be washed/dry-cleaned and will be distributed to students in need of such items.

How to order uniform items

The process for ordering uniforms is very simple as we have tried to accommodate working families.  Parents simply have to complete the attached order form and seal it with cash or credit card slip in an envelope. Your child can deposit the envelope through the slot in the “out of uniform office” door in A Block, (where Mrs Semenec is located). Orders will be stored in a locked box and will be collected by P&C staff each Tuesday. They will fill the order and students can come and collect uniform items from the Office at a later time. Alternatively, parents can come to school and purchase directly from the shop.

Any parents willing to help run the shop or donate time fill orders are welcome to volunteer. Times can be organised to suit the volunteers. The shop is open on Tuesdays from 10:00-11.00am. This would only be possible if some parents could volunteer their time to run the shop. If you are in a position to assist, please contact the school and leave your details.

Our supplier, Claudines, is more than happy for us to sell our uniform at significantly cheaper prices (approximately 15% discount rate). The price list is overleaf. You will find that you will make large savings on ALL items and all profits are channelled back to our school for your child’s education. Even though Claudines has a sale in December, our prices will still be less than their sale price.
