Year 6-7 Transition

In addition to our award-winning Linkages Program with local primary schools, we run two additional days for non-local students who choose to attend Engadine High School. Our experience is that these two days greatly assist students to adjust to high school.

The first day, which is held in early September, provides our first opportunity to meet both students and their parents prior to starting high school. On this day, there is a brief meeting with parents where members of senior executive speak about high school life and answer questions. Meanwhile, students meet with their peer support buddies and begin the process of making new friends. Between recess and lunch, students sit for a series of tests in writing, literacy and numeracy. This information, combined with primary school data, is used to form our two selective classes and remaining mixed ability classes. After lunch, students attend lessons with high school staff in a range of subjects. Feedback from parents, students and staff suggests that this is a highly valuable day.

The second occasion is the state-wide Orientation Day. On this day, students spend the day mixing with each other in either peer support activities or once again, participating in a range of classes taught by Engadine High School staff. Parents are also able to purchase the school uniform from the Uniform Shop.
