Selective classes
Engadine High School caters for the needs of gifted and talented students. In Years 7-10, there are two selective classes in each year to cater specifically for the needs of the more capable students.
Our research shows that capable students benefit enormously from being in a selective class. Not only do students have the opportunity to work with students of similar talents and abilities, they also enjoy challenging and more complex work.
We find that having two selective classes recognises the fact that some students may excel in some subjects such as English, but not for example, in Mathematics and so they can remain in a selective class for their strong subject in Years 8-10.
Entry into a selective class is based on information gathered from primary schools plus a test of literacy, numeracy and writing skills which is sat in September. Parents may choose to provide additional information about their child's achievements, including test results from other schools and their primary school portfolio.
