Languages
The Languages department offer both French and Italian language.
Stage 4
Year 7
Students are to complete the mandatory 100 hours study of one language, a requirement for the award of the School Certificate.
Year 8
Elective courses in Italian and French are offered in Year 8. An Italian Adventure offers students the opportunity to go on an exciting journey beyond the classroom and textbook and plan for a trip to Italy to visit its cities, find out about the history of its celebrations, traditions and foods whilst cooking and sampling Italian food. Students also visit an Italian High school online in order to correspond with e-mail pals. A Taste of French allows students to experience speaking French and find out more about the French way of life. Students will visit a French High School online and correspond with students in France.
Stage 5
Years 9/10
Students can elect to study language. A choice is offered between French and Italian.
At the completion of the 200 hour elective foreign language course, students will have the skills to communicate with proficiency in the areas of general interest to teenagers. They will also have an enriched cultural knowledge which will have made them more accepting of diversity and more aware of their place in the international community.
Stage 6
Years 11-12
In the senior years French and Italian are offered at 2 Unit, and Extension level.
Resources
A wide range of texts, reading and audio-visual materials is utilized. Computer resources are in current use and others are to be added this year.
Special Features
Engadine High hosts students from various European countries. It also encourages individual students to participate in student exchange programs. We also organise various short and long term sojourns overseas for people between the ages of 14 to 18 years.
