Speak Our Own Language Conference - 30/6/09
Engadine High School was chosen to host and present a live on-line video conference with six other schools to discuss “How can students have a voice about issues in our world.” The conference was organised by the Macquarie ICT Innovation Centre.
Our school was selected because of the frequent and creative use we have made of our connected classroom facility to host student forums and organise joint projects with other schools.
Elise Taylor, Trelby O’Connor, Kimberley Johnson and Brandon Johnston from Year 8 prepared an interactive presentation which they delivered to other participants and for other students across NSW.The students discussed our SRC’s values, environmental, leadership, citizenship opportunities and cultural exchange projects and their ideas for using technology to support them. They then led a discussion about how they could use social networking technology to give students a voice and better connect them throughout the world. When I spoke to these enthusiastic Year 8 students, they described the ways they are integrating a whole range of communication technologies into their learning and how they assist them with their learning. These conversations with students are the best part about leading a school.
